Oriental Health Practitioner Association of Australia (OHPAA) is a national association that represents practitioners and interested persons of the Oriental healing arts, traditional medicine and holistic health practice. OHPAA supports the integration of the many styles of holistic healing modalities recognizing that any one form is not superior to another and in fact come from the same source. OHPAA has continued to support the growth of this particular aspect of healing since it’s inception in 1997.

The Oriental healing arts trace their origins back to the ancient traditional practices of various Oriental cultures. These arts are effective because they carefully blend science, philosophy and spirituality together based on texts and practices that have been passed down over thousands of years. These have been adapted in modern times to deal with 21st century living. The modern practitioner of the Oriental healing arts is equipped with a profound set of resources to meet today’s health care challenges, utilizing any one or more of the eight limbs of the oriental arts:

  • Oriental needle therapy, acumoxatherapy, moxibustion
  • Massage, body therapy, shiatsu
  • Feng shui, inner/outer alignment, geomancy, EMF
  • Astrology, Oriental psychology, I-Ching readings
  • Food as medicine, macrobiotics, Oriental nutritional medicine
  • Meditation/contemplation, chanting, sound therapy
  • Herbal therapy, flower essences
  • Exercise therapy, qi gong, tai chi, movement therapy

Members of OHPAA have an affinity with ancient healing traditions and skills adapting these traditions to suit our modern lifestyles and associated health problems. An Oriental/traditional/holistic health practitioner is trained to accurately diagnose energy flow as it circulates through the organs and the body.

One’s physical state is not seen as existing outside one’s psycho-emotional state. The two are not separate but reflect each other.

By treating the whole, the Oriental/traditional/holistic health practitioner is able to assist the restoration of balance to the outer/physical and the inner/metaphysical.

The practical application of this health paradigm is simple: treat the patient as a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being.
